New Direct Coach Link Between Aberdeen and Edinburgh Airport Gets Underway

2 weeks ago Mon 28th Apr 2025

A new era of travel convenience has arrived as McGill’s Group, Scotland’s largest independent transport operator, today started its new service Fly Aberdeen — a direct coach link connecting Aberdeen city centre with Edinburgh Airport.

The inaugural service departed from Littlejohn Street at 01:35 this morning, offering travellers a reliable, affordable, and stress-free alternative for reaching the airport.

Stephen Riggans, Area Director for McGill’s Scotland North, was on hand to wave off the first passengers. Stephen said: “This morning, I had the pleasure of meeting our very first customer, Owen — a student from Robert Gordon University heading for a flight from Edinburgh Airport. Owen told me he had been searching online for a straightforward, reliable way to get to the airport — and found Fly Aberdeen offered exactly what he needed: practical, efficient, and perfectly timed.

“His enthusiasm captures exactly why we launched this service: to provide a dependable, high-quality travel option for people across Aberdeen. In fact, Owen’s already planning to use Fly Aberdeen again next month!”

Operating eight times daily, Fly Aberdeen services are strategically timed to connect with major domestic and international departures from Edinburgh Airport. With a journey time of approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes, the service offers a comfortable, direct ride — eliminating the hassle of costly taxis or complicated train connections.

Tony Williamson, Chief Executive of McGill’s Group, added: “The launch of Fly Aberdeen marks a major milestone in McGill’s Group’s strategic journey to strengthen transport connectivity across Scotland and beyond.

“As we continue to invest in award-winning local services and expand our national footprint through valued partnerships like FlixBus, our goal remains clear: to deliver innovative, integrated travel solutions that meet the evolving needs of our passengers.

“Fly Aberdeen is a natural next step — improving airport accessibility and bringing communities closer to the world.”
