Mr Ramzan, most commonly known to his colleagues as Uncle Ramzan - a dedicated Xplore Dundee bus driver for over 46 years - has been awarded the esteemed title of Frontline Employee of the Year at the Scottish Transport Awards 2024.

With a remarkable career spanning nearly half a century, Mohammad Ramzan is one of Scotland’s longest-serving bus drivers. He began his journey with Tayside Passenger Transport in 1978 and continues to serve the Dundee community with unwavering dedication. His exceptional service and commitment were celebrated at the Marriott Hotel in Glasgow, where he received the award from Scottish Transport Secretary Fiona Hyslop MSP.

In addition to his regular duties, Mr. Ramzan has played a key role in Xplore Dundee’s 'Did It for Me' recruitment campaign, emphasising the supportive and friendly environment created by his colleagues. He credits this camaraderie for his long-standing tenure with the company.

Reflecting on his recognition, Mr. Ramzan said, "Receiving the award amongst friends and family was truly special to me. It is always nice to feel that the work I am doing is contributing to something larger. I would like to sincerely thank everyone who has supported me throughout my decades of driving and I look forward to continuing my service".

Scottish Transport Secretary Fiona Hyslop MSP praised the evening's honourees, stating

"It was an honour to speak at last night's (Thursday) awards ceremony and recognise the achievements of some previously unsung heroes in our transport sector.

"I particularly enjoyed handing out the Frontline Employee of the Year award, and also meeting so many people who are working so hard behind the scenes, day in, day out, to keep Scotland moving.”

She added “It was my 2nd Scottish Transport Awards, and I was able to reflect on the progress made over the past 12 months on so many projects and initiatives. However, we must keep up momentum and continue to build on these foundations. Well done to Mr Ramzan and all our winners on such a fitting occasion to celebrate your success."

Alex Hornby, McGill’s Group Managing Director added:

“Nothing beats seeing colleagues being praised for their work and commitment. Bus drivers have a demanding job and we are all so proud of Mr Ramzan and all that he has done for Dundee’s people and public transport system over his remarkable 46 year career. He’s an inspiration to us all and we are very privileged to have in our team. His award and recognition as the best in Scotland is so richly deserved.”
