At Xplore Dundee, we are trusted to carry thousands of passengers across our city every day. As we all begin to experience a 'new normal' with Coronavirus (COVID-19), it is more important than ever that we operate safely and responsibly.
In-line with Scottish Government guidance, we've set out some things you can do to look after yourself and others while travelling.
We've also outlined the steps we are taking to keep our buses clean and safe.
Good hygiene and physical distancing are at the heart of all expert advice. We will do what we can to encourage and facilitate this - and would appeal to our passengers to respect and follow these guidelines. What you can do
1: Waiting at bus stops
Physical distancing is important for your safety. Make sure you stay 2m apart when waiting for the bus to arrive.
2: Boarding the bus
Please be patient and board the bus one at a time. Don't crowd the platform and avoid hanging about in close proximity to the driver.
3: Wear a face covering
Face coverings are mandatory when using public transport (unless a valid medical exemption applies). Please do your bit to look after yourself and others.
4: Contactless if you can
Using contactless (or mTickets) reduces the exchange of cash and coins. Though our drivers do not have to handle money, there are other staff who work behind the scenes that do.
5: Physical distancing
Please use all the space available (including upstairs, if you can). We would also ask that you do not sit or stand forward of the buggy bays when waiting to get off - and do not stand during your journey. Please try to sit near the windows, and only sit next to somebody if you share a household or social bubble.
6: Open a window
Please leave the windows open to let in as much fresh air as possible.
7: Wash your hands
Wash your hands with warm soapy water before and after your journey (try humming 'the wheels on the bus' twice whilst washing!). Or carry a bottle of hand sanitiser whilst out and about (this will not be provided on the bus, so please make sure to carry your own). Also avoid touching your face.
8: Good hygiene
If you need to cough or sneeze, please use a tissue (or the inside of your arm). It's important that you take used tissues with you and dispose of them safely when you get off the bus.
9: Stay home if unwell
General advice at the moment is to stay at home if you don't feel well - especially if you are showing symptoms of COVID-19. Stay safe and take care.
What we are doing
1: Enhanced cleaning
Every day, our buses are treated to an enhanced cleaning regime to make sure touchpoints and surfaces are thoroughly disinfected.
2: Disinfectant fogging
We've invested in new equipment to aid the deep cleaning of buses. Fogging machines will be used to spray anti-viral disinfectant which stays active for up to 24 hours.
3: Hand sanitiser
Drivers are provided with hand sanitiser at the depot and we are actively encouraging passengers to carry their own when travelling.
4: Physical distancing
We're asking passengers not to use certain seats. Please respect this guidance.
5: Deploying bigger buses
To support physical distancing during your journey, we are deploying double deck buses as much as possible. To avoid overcrowding downstairs, please sit upstairs if you can.
6: Safety signage
There are a number of things you and your fellow passengers can do to look after each other. These are described on notices which will be displayed around the bus.
7: Bus stop markers
To support physical distancing during your journey, our partners at Dundee City Council and NHS Tayside have displayed helpful markers at bus stops. Stay safe. Stay apart.
8: Timetable adjustments
We are keeping a close eye on demand to identify busy services which may require some changes to support physical distancing. We will do what we can, where we can, when we can.
9: Protecting our drivers
We're giving our drivers masks, gloves, sanitiser and wipes to use when needed during their duties. We have also sealed the speech holes in their cab screens.
