Monthly Direct Debit Update

As we are nearing the end of May, we would like to update our customers on the introduction of Xplore Dundee’s new monthly direct debit scheme.

Since the closure of the National Express scheme at the end of March 2021, we have been working very closely with our bank to introduce a new scheme designed for Dundee. We had hoped that this would have been in place by the end of May; unfortunately, due to unforeseen complications, we regret that we are not yet in a position to launch the new scheme in the coming days or weeks.

Over the last couple of months, as a thank you for being a long-term loyal customer, we have allowed expired direct debit passes to remain valid for free travel in the meantime. At this stage, we regret to advise that we are no longer able to sustain this free travel offer. From 1 June 2021, expired passes will no longer be accepted by bus drivers, and a new valid ticket will need to be bought or used instead.

Please be assured that we offer a flexible variety of great value tickets which we are sure will meet your needs in the meantime:

  • Our full ticket range is accessible using the Xplore Dundee app, with price savings built-in too. We’d recommend the new 4-WeekSaver subscription as the next-nearest alternative to the direct debit. You can sign-up on our website and get the pass sent to your phone; it sets up a recurring £48 payment which comes off every four weeks.
  • There are options available to cover different periods of time (whether a day, a week, or four weeks at a time)
  • Most tickets (lasting up to a week) can be bought on the bus from the driver and paid for using cash or contactless
  • Longer-term passes can be loaded onto smartcards at our Travel Centre (80-82 Commercial Street)

Please be assured: the new direct debit scheme is still in development. Updates on its progress will be posted online (website and social media) and will also available from our travel centre; we would ask that you check these sources regularly.

Once the new scheme is launched, we will be offering unlimited travel at the same great prices of £44/mo (for adults) and £26.50/mo (for children & Young Scots). Customers will soon be invited to complete a new application and direct debit mandate online; once this application has been approved, new photo ID smartcards will be produced and sent out. And once you receive your card, you no longer need to worry about waiting for replacements every month; your pass will last the lifetime of the card.
